About TUMCREATE

TUMCREATE is a multidisciplinary research platform of the Technical University Munich (TUM) at the Singapore Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE). We are joining forces with universities, public agencies, and industry for the advancement of future technologies.

Our large-scale Food Science program, ‘Proteins4Singapore,’ funded by Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF), is a collaborative effort between the Technical University Munich (TUM), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), and A*STAR’s Singapore Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation (SIFBI). As part of the Proteins4Singapore team, you will work alongside renowned scientists in plant and food technology, food chemistry, materials science, and business sustainability. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the program aims to develop state-of-the-art methods and techniques to ensure a sustainable protein supply for highly urbanized environments.

Job Summary

As a Food / Analytical Chemistry Research Assistant / Intern, you will support ongoing laboratory operations and research by assisting with sample preparation, instrumental analysis, data collection, and reporting. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to deepen their understanding of analytical techniques and laboratory best practices. On-the-job training will be provided. The aim of the project is to identify the tastants in katsuobushi and produce a taste recombinant. The internship starts on a mutually agreed date.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform LC-MS (liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry) chemical analysis and sensory evaluation of food components
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, results, and observations
  • Assist with data analysis and preparation of technical reports or documentation
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and good laboratory practices (GLP)

 

Time Commitment

  • Minimum 16 hours per week (flexible arrangement) or full-time internship for a minimum of 3 months.

 

Job Qualifications

  • Current BSc or MSc student in Food Science, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Forensics, or a related scientific field from a reputable university.
  • Prior laboratory experience in an academic or industry environment
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation, and data integrity
  • Familiarity with common analytical instruments (e.g. HPLC - High-Performance Liquid Chromatography)
  • Keen interest in flavour and sensory science is a plus
