TUMCREATE is a research platform for the improvement of Singapore's public transportation, including the deployment of electric and autonomous mobility. Researchers from Technical University Munich and Nanyang Technological University join forces and are funded by Singapore’s National Research Foundation as part of the Campus for Research Excellence And Technological Enterprise (CREATE).
TUMCREATE is made up of over 100 scientists, researchers and engineers led by Professors from the Technical University of Munich and Nanyang Technological University. About this position
The IMVS team in TUMCREATE develops concepts and technologies for a new electrified and autonomous vehicle for Singapore. This vehicle will be operated in a new public transportation system with adapted infrastructure and dynamic routing. The impacts of such a system, in terms of costs, energy consumption, and road infrastructure, are investigated.
Objective & Tasks
The elimination of the driver poses numerous challenges in the development of level 5 vehicles. In addition to control using classic control algorithms, it is also possible to completely control the vehicle via an artificial neural network using the "end-to-end deep learning approach". This artificial neural network is only trained by images and vehicle data, so that it can completely take over the driving task.
IMVS team is looking for a PhD candidate with deep knowledge in autonomous driving and a great enthusiasm for artificial intelligence. The candidate will develop an end-to-end deep learning algorithm for the complete control of an autonomous vehicle. This novel approach will then be compared with conventional methods of autonomous vehicle control. The project work will be carried out in Singapore.
Above-average university degree in one of the following fields: mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering or computer science
Very good knowledge in the field of automotive engineering
Very good knowledge in the field of artificial intelligence
Good knowledge of Python, Matlab, as well as programming in C, C++, C#
Experience with Linux and database systems
Business fluent English skills required
Readiness for a stay abroad
