Project Title: Tower of Information – Pilot Project
About TUMCREATE TUMCREATE is a research platform for the improvement of Singapore's public transportation, including the deployment of electric and autonomous mobility. Researchers from Technical University Munich and Nanyang Technological University join forces and are funded by Singapore’s National Research Foundation as part of the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE).
In TUMCREATE, over 100 scientists, researchers and engineers work together, led by Professors from the Technical University of Munich and Nanyang Technological University. The mission of TUMCREATE is to seek the ultimate public transport system for the people of Singapore. Our innovative road transport solutions will provide high comfort and a positive travel experience, best protection of the environment and maximum benefit to the society and the economy.
Background The Tower of Information (ToI) concept envisions to transform the CREATE Tower into a research hub with a high-quality information sharing platform. This vision helps the CREATE programme to have a facilitated process in connecting academic institutes and agencies to best benefit the future of research in Singapore.
This pilot project aims to explore different possible technical and organisational solutions for establishing the Tower of Information, particularly in the mobility domain. It brings together TUMCREATE, SMART FM and ETH FCL to form a mobility-themed research group and to build a shared information pool. The information-sharing procedure in this project will tackle challenges in information acquisition as an inter-institute research group, setup and maintenance of infrastructure as well as information-accessing protocols.
Objective and Tasks This position is the leading position for this pilot project, with the following tasks.
The first main task is MobilityData Management, which is the key task of the pilot project:
Preparation of data sharing agreements with data owners, e.g. agencies
Data acquisition from agencies
Development of data storage infrastructure
Development of data accessing practice
The second main task is Transportation Modelling and Simulation, including:
Modelling and simulation of the transportation systems using the shared information pool
Enhancing the information pool with the simulation results
Additionally, this position is also expected to assist the principle investigator of this project for:
Coordination of the researchers from different teams
Monitoring and ensuring the progress of the research teams according to the work plan
What we expect from you
Master degree in Computer Science, Traffic Engineering, Geographic Information System or equivalent field
Knowledge in databases
Knowledge in traffic modelling and simulation
Fluent in programming, e.g. Python
Leadership, ability to work independently
Good communication skills
