TUMCREATE is a research company working on improving Singapore’s public transport system and making it more sustainable by electrifying it. Research area ESTL (Electrification Suite & Test Lab) is working on the electrification of public transport and its integration into the power system.
About This Position
In Phase-I of TUMCREATE, a smart Battery Management System (BMS) was developed. For Phase-II we are building a new version of the Smart Cell platform in which we plan to incorporate our recent findings. Therefore, a PCB has been designed on the basis of an ARM Cortex M0 Chipset, as shown in Fig 1, which aims to drastically reduce the energy requirements of the system and therefore boost efficiency, flexibility and scalability.
Objectives & Tasks
The successful applicant is required to work independently on the following tasks:
Architecture design: Design and manufacturing of PCBs for different additional tasks like communication through CAN and charge balancing.
Assembly: Prototype assembly of additional PCB.
Software: Implementation of demonstrator software based on a previous version for another platform. This includes battery parameter measurement and safety monitoring, control of the balancing hardware as well as communication via CAN protocol. A special focus will be on implementing a battery model and balancing algorithms.
Testing and validation: Perform characterization measurements and validate the performance of the implemented system.
GUI development: Design and implementation of a GUI to visualize the system’s status and behavior
Experience in PCB design.
Embedded programming knowledge is highly desirable.
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills in both written and spoken English.
The ability to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
