Interdisciplinary teams will generate state-of-the-art methods and techniques to ensure a sustainable protein supply in highly urbanized environments.

The focus of research is on the evaluation of alternative processes for vertical farming of proteins. We will establish total value assessments of protein supply chains for technologies developed from this project as well as for the major existing animal and plant-based sources of protein. The key methodologies used in this project are life cycle assessment/analysis (LCA), techno-economic analysis (TEA), process modelling and supply chain optimization and analysis. The project will be at the interface of vertical farming/food sciences, LCA, process modelling and supply chain optimization.
