Postdoc and Research Associate/PhD Student (Life Cycle Analysis)
Job Purpose/Objective of the Position:
You will be working in the Proteins4Singapore (P4S) programme, a comprehensive research programme with renowned scientists of plant and food technology, food chemistry, and business sustainability. Interdisciplinary teams will generate state-of-the-art methods and techniques to ensure a sustainable protein supply in highly urbanized environments.
The focus of research is on the evaluation of alternative processes for vertical farming of proteins. We will establish total value assessments of protein supply chains for technologies developed from this project as well as for the major existing animal and plant-based sources of protein. The key methodologies used in this project are life cycle assessment/analysis (LCA), techno-economic analysis (TEA), process modelling and supply chain optimization and analysis. The project will be at the interface of vertical farming/food sciences, LCA, process modelling and supply chain optimization.
Data collection for performing LCA calculations for the processes developed in this project from Singapore perspective.
Performing LCA calculations for evaluating the environmental footprint of different processes / process configurations and comparing them.
Performing total value assessment of the processes developed in this project.
Evaluate different modes of soy production and understand the entire supply chain from food security perspective.
Good understanding of Life Cycle Analysis theory and calculations
Experience in using one of the software tools (Gabi / Simapro) for Life Cycle Assessment.
Experience on products Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and related standards such as ISO 14044, ISO 14067, GHG Protocol.
Strong interdisciplinary skills at the intersection of food production, sustainability, life cycle assessments, product supply chains, etc.
Self-motivated and quick learner who is passionate about latest trends and technologies in food production / vertical farming.
Passionate about domain of sustainability and evaluating product and processes to understand environmental and social impact.
Good team player, able to work with deadlines and dynamic requirements.
Master’s in Engineering/Environmental Engineering/Industrial Engineering or Operations with strong skills in mathematical modelling, process analysis and/or life cycle analysis.
Experience or interest in using LCA tools and or/process modelling tools and in interdisciplinary work in the sustainability domain.
Strong skills in English speaking and writing, problem-solving and communication.
