TUMCREATE is a multidisciplinary research platform of the Technical University Munich (TUM) at the Singapore Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE). We are joining forces with universities, public agencies, and industry for the advancement of future technologies.

Our large-scale Food Science ‘Proteins4Singapore’ program is funded by Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF). The Technical University Munich (TUM) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) join forces with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and A*STAR’s Singapore Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation (SIFBI) to research plant-based proteins.

Job Purpose/Objective of the Position:

A full-time PhD position is available at TUMCREATE. You will be working in the area of modulation of gut microbiome with functional foods and working towards personal nutrition. The selected candidate will work jointly at TUMCREATE and Professor Yulan Wang’s lab based in Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, with access to microbiological laboratory and state of art analytical facilities. The ideal applicant must be self-motivated, proactive and enthusiastic to his/her career development.


Job Requirements/Competencies:

  • You should have a Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry or related fields
  • Develop methods to carry out comprehensive analysis of the components in plant-based food materials, including, phenolic compounds, oligosaccharides and lipids.
  • Ambitious and eager to learn
  • Good basic laboratory skills
  • At least 1 year experience in analytical chemistry would be a plus.
  • Good communication skills and fast learner
  • Self-motivated to drive the project and can work independently
