About TUMCREATE

TUMCREATE is a research platform for the improvement of Singapore's public transportation, including the deployment of electric and autonomous mobility. Researchers from Technical University Munich and Nanyang Technological University join forces and are funded by Singapore’s National Research Foundation as part of the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE).In TUMCREATE, over 100 scientists, researchers and engineers work together, led by professors from the TUM and NTU. The mission of TUMCREATE is to seek the ultimate public transport system for the people of Singapore.

About this Position

We have an open position for a Master’s Thesis / Research Assistant / Internship at TUMCREATE in Singapore. We are a multi-cultural research and development team based at the University Town Campus at the National University of Singapore.

At TUMCREATE, we have been developing CityMoS, a high-performance traffic simulator to solve the challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s intelligent transportation systems. In CityMoS we evaluate private, public, and commercial transport on a city scale. This includes topics ranging from electric vehicles to autonomous cars to optimising public transport. We are looking for a talented young researcher who will contribute to this exciting project by developing and applying methods to calibrate simulation models to reproduce real-world behaviour in a simulation environment. Your primary focus of work will be on the calibration of taxi behaviour to enrich our simulation model with realistic movement patterns of both taxis and private hire vehicles. We are looking for a strong team player who is able to step out of their comfort zone. As we are working closely with the government, academic, and industry sectors, you will be working on topical problems where you have the opportunity to see your work have a sustainable impact in the real world.

What we expect

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field with experience
  • Knowledge in modelling and simulation techniques advantageous
  • Background in C++
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills for internal and external presentation as well as scientific discussions
  • Ability to approach complex problems in a structured way
  • Fluent in spoken and written English

What we offer

  • A young, dynamic, and international working environment
  • Opportunity to work on a project with real-life relevance
  • Work with researchers from world-renowned Universities (TU Munich and NTU Singapore)
  • Flat hierarchies in a pleasant and friendly work atmosphere
